The Color is Paul Mitchell's core permanent line, a low-ammonia cream. Standard shades mix 1:1 with Cream or Clear Developer and process 35 minutes on dry hair: 20 vol for deposit, gray coverage or 1 to 2 levels, 30 vol for 2 to 3, and 40 vol for 3. Shades are coded by level and family letters, such as N, NB, Ab and RR. The chart also holds Highlift blondes (Cream Developer only, up to 4 levels in 45 minutes), Ultra Toners, the N+, CH+ and CNB+ gray series, and The Color 10, a 10-minute permanent mixed 1:1.5 with 20 vol that does not intermix with The Color.
